A 53-year-old man caught in the middle of gunfire Tuesday in Center Point is expected to recover from a bullet wound to his head, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office reports.
The shooting happened in the 1800 block of Bond Circle NE in Center Point around 4 p.m. Tuesday, Chief Deputy Randy Christian said.
An altercation began between two juveniles and an adult at Center Point High School earlier that afternoon. Deputies say the adult's car almost hit the car being driven by one of the juveniles.
"Words were exchanged and the School Resource Officer on campus directed the adult to leave the school property," Christian said.
A short time later, the juveniles were waiting in traffic at the intersection of Martinique Drive and Polly Reed Road when the adult suspect drove by and fired a shot at them. The bullet missed the juveniles and instead struck the 53-year-old bystander who was walking nearby, Christian said.
The adult suspect, identified as a 21-year-old Center Point man, then fled the scene. The victim was taken to the hospital to be treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
Jefferson County deputies expect to formally charge the suspect with first degree assault and two counts of attempted murder on Wednesday.
