Baseball is officially back in Birmingham for the first time in 25 years. The Barons played in front of a sold out crowd at the new Regions Field and beat out the Mississippi Braves, 9-5.
Most everyone who spoke to FOX6 loved the new stadium. Some say there were a few kinks that may need to be worked out, but overall the atmosphere was very positive.
To make sure fans feel comfortable in the baron's new home, police beefed up their presence. The could be seen out on the streets, inside the stadium, on just about every corner. They even used mounted patrols. Police say the mounts give them better visibility and they can react quicker than somebody on foot. The horses were also a hit with the little ones.
Birmingham police will be back at Regions Field Thursday night when the Barons play the Mississippi Braves again. The first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. Tickets are still available.
