Hundreds of kids line up for Kids and Jobs

Birmingham, AL (WBRC) - Nearly one thousand 14 and 15 year olds stood nervously as they waited for the Fair Park Arena doors to open at 9 AM sharp Saturday for the Kids and Jobs interview day. Looking sharp and being ready to go through possibly your first real job interview is a little frightening.

Michaela Paige says her daughter, Jasmine, worked hard to prepare for this day. Paige said, "It was wonderful. She actually did everything, the full application, did the essay, made sure she brought her report card, and she also made a copy of her ID and everything. She's pretty much done everything by herself, so she's really excited, and I'm excited for her."

Before any candidates can get that job they have to also go through an interview. Birmingham Mayor William Bell who attended the Kids and Jobs event said learning how to get, keep and succeed in a job, are really more important than the paychecks these kids receive if they're selected.

After their interview these young applicants will be judged on five criteria including appearance, attitude, articulation, academics and their application packet. Those who are selected will be notified by May first. They'll start work June first.
