Tuscaloosa police say they have arrested a man for allegedly shooting at an officer during a pursuit in a stolen vehicle.
Lt. Kip Hart with the Tuscaloosa Metro Homicide Unit says that Leon Anthony Sanders, 24, has been charged with attempted murder and receiving stolen property.
Around 9 p.m. Sunday evening an officer noticed a suspicious vehicle in a gas station parking lot on Sklyand Boulevard East. The officer tried to speak with the driver, Sanders, when the suspect fled. The officer followed.
During the pursuit, the officer told investigators he hear several shots fired from the Sanders' vehicle near Spring Drive and Church Street. The chase continued until Sanders made his way back to Spring Drive where he abandoned the vehicle and fled.
Police K-9, air units and sheriff's deputies assisted in a search for Sanders but he wasn't located immediately. During the course of Sunday night's investigation, officers found evidence that Sanders was the suspect and warrants were issued. Sanders was located at his residence and taken into custody around 5:30 a.m. Monday.
The officer was not injured in the pursuit and the investigation into this case continues. Sanders is being held at the county jail on a $90,000 bond.
