ANNISTON, AL (WBRC) -

Monday marked a milestone for the Anniston Police Department as it prepares to move into a new home.

Work is nearly complete on the Justin Sollohub Justice Center, which will house Anniston's Police Department, jail and municipal court.

Some parts of the department have already moved in and are working out of the new building, which is on the same block as the former building which is older and smaller.

Dispatchers began taking calls from the new center Monday. Anniston's police chief says the move will take up to six weeks.

"We never thought we would see it, we're just now getting to it. It's what I call semi-organized chaos. We're in the process of moving everything right now, we're operating out of three buildings. We're trying to get that consolidated into one new building," Chief Shane Denham said.

The department will move its city jail prisoners April 29. In addition to the old and new police headquarters, the department's patrol is also using the old water works offices three blocks away.
