MONEY TUESDAY - Stewart Welch joined us to explain if life insurance a good investment. He says if the insured person is in much poorer health now than he/she was when policy was initiated, it's probably a good investment. If that person's health is unchanged, it may still be a reasonable investment and there is a way to calculate this. Your agent can run a report that shows the projected rate of return to the death benefit on a year-by-year basis. Assuming the insured lives into his/her eighties or nineties; this return may be in the 3% to 5% range…a conservative return similar to historical returns for bonds, CDs and money market accounts. If you've owned the policy for a long time, say thirty or more years, it may be at a point that no more premiums are required. Again, your agent can provide you this answer. DR. ASA - Dr. Asa Andrew revealed his top 5 ways to slim up and break into spring. He says you should eat more fat!Fat burns fat so each nuts, seeds, avocados, and coconut oil proven to burn excess body fat. His second point - increase your water intake... this includes teas. The rule of thumb is to drink half of your bodyweight in ounces of water each day. That means a person weight 150pounds should drink 75 ounces. This increases fat burning. His third point - supplement with Green Tea Extract (or drink more green tea), and CLA (conjugated linoleic acid). These have been university tested and proven to burn up the fat. Dr. Asa recommends you get more sleep before midnight. He says every minute of sleep before midnight equals four minutes after. Sleep resets hormones like testosterone, estrogen, cortisol, and growth hormone that reduces body fat and increases lean muscle. And lastly, Dr. Asa says move! He recommends you exercise five days a week for 30 minutes a day. ORGAN DONOR AWARENESS MONTH - National Donate Life Month (NDLM) was instituted by Donate Life America and its partnering organizations in 2003 with the support of then Secretary of HHS, Tommy Thompson. That year, President George W. Bush announced that the month of April will be observed as National Donate Life Month, a time to raise public awareness of the critical need for organ, tissue, marrow and blood donations. National Donate Life Month features an entire month of local, regional and national activities to help encourage Americans to register as organ, eye and tissue donors and to celebrate those that have saved lives through the gift of donation. An outgrowth of the celebratory month is the Flags Across America initiative that began in 2009. It honors and celebrates the hundreds of thousands of donors and recipients whose lives have been affected by organ, eye and tissue donation. The initiative rallies every donor hospital and transplant center, as well as all recovery agencies, to collectively fly the Donate Life flag during April. Many partnering hospitals choose to fly a Donate Life flag throughout the year every time a donation occurs at their centers. The concept is to make a very visible and unified statement about the importance of donation and thus reflect the dire need for donors and encourage people to register their donation decisions. For more information, and to register to be a donor, please visit the AOC's website at www.alabamaorgancenter.org or call 1-800-252-3677.
