BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

On Friday, a Birmingham community activist and people from the Collegeville community will head to Montgomery to make their case against a dump in their neighborhood.

The group will be addressing the Alabama Department of Environmental Management about the recycling landfill off of Shuttlesworth Drive and across from Maclin Park.

"It's an eyesore and possibly children or anybody else could get into and out into the community probably get over there as a play ground," community resident Johnny DeBardalon said.

The group is hoping ADEM will force the landfills owners to make improvements. They are concerned about the amount of debris at the landfill, the possibility that children could scale a fence to get inside and possible runoff into the area water system.
