Jefferson County deputies arrest unregistered Michigan sex offender

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

A 48-year-old man convicted of multiple sexual crimes and registered as a sex offender in Michigan has been arrested for failing to register in Alabama.

Jefferson County deputies arrested Gary Lee Rudolph at his residence in the 600 block of Valley Crest Drive in northeast Jefferson County. Someone anonymously tipped them off to Rudolph on Wednesday, April 17. Deputies verified that he was an unregistered sex offender and arrested him on Thursday, April 18.

Deputies say Rudolph was first convicted in 1986 for criminal sexual conduct 2 (multiple variables) and served four years in prison. In 1994 he was convicted again for criminal sexual conduct 2 (person under 13) and criminal sexual conduct 2 (multiple variables). He served 13 years in prison for those convictions.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office has charged Rudolph with failure to register as a sex offender and violation of the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act. He is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on a bond of $30,000.
