Anniston's city council could vote Tuesday night to restrict smoking in most public buildings.
The city already has a law that doesn't allow smoking in places like retail stores and banks and allows restaurants to go "all-smoking" or "all non-smoking."
The proposed ordinance would ban smoking in all restaurants and bars, all hotel rooms and even all common areas of apartment complexes.
The council considered the law after hearing from the American Lung Association on the dangers of second hand and third hand cigarette smoke.
The mayor and other council members say the expanded smoking ordinance will make the city more attractive to "eco-tourists," like bicyclists and marathon runners.
