The following is an editorial from FOX6 WBRC-TV General Manager Lou Kirchen, first aired on Tuesday, April 23:
A labor of love: that's what Absolutely Alabama, a long-running news segment, has been for Fred Hunter and photojournalist Mike Tucker. They have been telling the stories about the people, places and products of our state for about 15 years. Their travels send them north to the counties bordering Tennessee and south to our beautiful beaches and from Mississippi's state line to Georgia's.
In a world where much of the news is "hard," Absolutely Alabama stands out as a celebration of life. Fred and Mike give us insight into the lives and dreams of folks in communities large and small; sharing what makes them interesting and unique.
Although they've done a masterful, in fact award-winning, job telling these stories, I am sure they would tell you, it's not easy to reduce all they have learned about their subjects - all of the great conversations, the beautiful video - to the 90 seconds or so required for a newscast format.
Well, we think we have resolved that challenge. Beginning this Friday, April 26, Absolutely Alabama becomes a weekly 30-minute show airing after our late news at 10:35 p.m. on Fridays.
Please join us each week for stories that may make you laugh or maybe cry a little; may make you say, "I didn't know that;" but always for stories that are Absolutely Alabama.
