JEH JEH LIVE - Jeh Jeh joined us this morning with the The 2nd Annual Greater Birmingham 5K! The 2nd Annual Greater Birmingham 5K Walk and Run for Foster Care, billed as Walk Me Home…to the place I belong, is the signature fund-raising and awareness event for foster care in America. It is a great way to support the more than 513,000 children in foster care, 6000 of which reside in the state of Alabama. The event will take place Saturday, April 27 at Veterans Park located at 4800 Valleydale Road in Hoover. Registration for the run is from 7 a.m. until the race begins at 8 a.m. Registration for the walk is from 8 a.m. until the walk begins at 9:30 a.m. Pre-registration is available at http://www.firstgiving.com/walkmehome/shelby2013. The cost for all registration is $30.00. Registration must be completed by April 13th to receive a shirt. Non-runners and non-walkers are welcome to enjoy live entertainment, resource booths, vendors, refreshments, crafts, speakers and a presentation by the Hogs and Harleys. Medals will be awarded following the run and walk to the top 5 participants in each age group, and trophies to the top runner or walker in each age group. Each participant will receive blue ribbons that will be hung on the trees in the park to highlight Foster Children. The Walk Me Home 5k was developed nationally by the National Foster Parent Association to raise awareness for foster care, promote fostering, and raise funds needed to support the programs and services directly benefitting the Greater Birmingham foster children and youth. ALABAMA FOREVER - This morning Alex Sokol, who started "Alabama Forever," joined us. Alabama Forever was created two years ago in response to the April 27th tornadoes. Alabama Forever, a nonprofit organization committed to the communities of Alabama celebrates its 2nd anniversary on April 28, 2013. Alex Sokol, Chris Nix, and Ed Welden founded Alabama Forever in response to the tornadoes that ravaged the state of Alabama. Since its formation, Alabama Forever has expanded beyond tornado relief to a statewide initiative to help communities in need. Since inception, Alabama Forever raised more than $297,000 in two years to help provide new supplies in three primary divisions of giving: Classroom Projects, Sports Endowments, and Special Projects funds. www.alabamaforever.org.

BARGAIN CAROUSEL - Sarah Peinhardt with The Junior League of Birmingham joined us this morning with a few bargains! The Junior League of Birmingham hosts its annual Bargain Carousel this weekend at the former JCPenney at Century Plaza. The weekend kicks off with the Bargain Bash tomorrow nigth from 6-10 p.m. It costs $40 for VIP and $30 for general admission. The Bargain Bash tomorrow gets you a sneak peek of the sale with a VIP ticket, which offers entrance at 6 p.m., an hour before general admission patrons. All items will be available for purchase at double the listed price. The Bargain Bash also features food, beverages and live and silent auctions. On Saturday the doors open at 8am for the Bargain Carousel. Entrance from 8-10am costs $10 and from 10am-5pm, it costs $5. Saturday sale tickets are available for purchase on April 26 from 3-7 p.m. The tickets are numbered, and patrons will enter the Bargain Carousel in order of their ticket number.
