Ala. House approves $50 million for school safety

Posted: Updated:

Alabama's public schools are closer to getting millions to improve security.

The Alabama House voted 96-0 Thursday for a bill by Republican Rep. Allen Treadaway of Morris that authorizes the state to issue up to $50 million in bonds.

The money would be used to improve security at school entrances and make other changes to make schools safer.

The bill now goes to the Senate for consideration.

Treadaway and other legislators began to push the bond issue after the school shooting in Connecticut.
