With tears running down their eyes, family and friends of 19-year-old Darryl Morris, also known as D.J., gathered to pray for strength and understanding of why his life was cut short.
"Everybody know that's a good dude man, like forreal. He didn't deserve no one this; nothing, not even fighting," close friend Javaski said.
His family and friends describe him as a young man who was trying to make something of his life.
"He was very sweet, hard-working young man. He went to church and stayed around his family. Never would have imagined he'd been gone so soon. It's very hard and devastating. We are all going to miss him and I just ask that everyone keep praying for the family," Darryl Morris' sister Tiffany Morris said.
"The enemy wants to wipe them out, but let your angels encamp about them," New Life Church of God in Christ Pastor Terry Ellison said.
His murder happened right in front of New Life Church of God in Christ while services were going on last Friday night.
"I can't sit and wait for the next murder to happen. We are going to get out in the streets and start telling people about Christ, but also about how to manage life," Pastor Ellison said.
"I can forgive whoever took my brother away," close friend Ja'Mel Brown said.
Police believe a robbery attempt led to the shooting. The family says no one really knows what happened, but what is for certain is the senseless violence needs to stop.
"Words cannot describe how we are feeling. It hurts us. Enough is really just enough," Brown said.
