COLUMBIA, SC (WMBF) - A Conway man who pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography after a U.S. District Court judge accepted a plea has been sentenced, according to documents from federal court.
The Florence County Sheriff's Office took Richard Rau, 67, into custody on April 25. He was originally charged with seven counts related to distributing child pornography, and one count of possession of child pornography.
The Grand Jury alleges that Rau emailed sexually explicit images of persons under the age of 18, which he sent by computer from his email account. There were seven separate emails sent between December 11, 2012 and January 21, 2013. The evidence was discovered by Homeland Security Investigations.
The federal court documents from the Grand Jury also state that on February 5, 2013, Rau knowingly possessed computers, computer discs, an iPhone, and other materials that contained images of child pornography that had been mailed, shipped and transported by his computer.
Rau was sentenced to 120 months imprisonment, a fine of $17,500, forefeiture of five computers. He will also have five years of supervised release, and is required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison.
