Lipscomb city leaders are still at odds over a pending financial crisis.
Last week, Lipscomb Mayor Lance McDade laid off the entire police department and workers in the street department. McDade said there is no money to pay them, but the city council is not convinced.
The council recalled the employees back to work and they demanded proof of the financial crisis. Commissioner Sandra Little Brown has been meeting with both sides. Brown wants a meeting to sort out the crisis.
McDade said an emergency meeting may be called Friday. Brown wants a meeting as soon as Thursday.
McDade said the crisis was created in part with owing back taxes to the IRS of about $500,000 and more than $100,000 to the state. The mayor said the city was not taking out payroll and social security taxes.
