GREENE COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

A 71-year-old assistant fire chief died early Tuesday morning after responding to a fire in Greene County.

Assistant Fire Chief Stanley Martin, Jr. served with the Springfield Volunteer Fire Department as an apparatus operator. He responded along with other firefighters to a structure fire at 71 Peachtree Lane in Eutaw around 2:30 a.m. May 7.

After the fire was put out, Martin complained of having shortness of breath, according to a post on the Alabama Fire College Facebook page. His visitation will be held Thursday, May 9 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and the funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 10. The graveside service will be at Mesopotamia Cemetery, according to the Alabama Fire College.
