BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Birmingham police announced Tuesday afternoon they've arrested two suspects in the murder of Birl Jackson, a 76-year-old landscaper who was shot to death on Monday morning.

Police have charged Donovan Burke, a 24-year-old from Birmingham, with capital murder in Jackson's death. A second man, Adrian Dunning, 28 of Birmingham, has been charged with murder.

Birmingham police said Monday evening they had two people in custody in connection to the shooting. Sgt. Johnny Williams said today the second suspect was arrested on an unrelated outstanding warrant and bonded out before being charged with murder in Jackson's death.

Both suspects are being held at the Jefferson County Jail on no bond.

Jackson worked as a landscaper and was near his truck on 3rd Avenue SW when he was shot around 9 a.m. Monday, May 6. One of his grandsons, who worked with him, found him slumped over his steering wheel.

Birl Jackson leaves behind a wife, 14 children, more than 50 grandchildren and some great-grandchildren. One of his sons is a Birmingham police officer.

Police said robbery may have been the motive in this crime.
