Federal authorities are asking East Texans to keep an eye out for a Tennessee man wanted for murder. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigations says 46-year-old David Jenkins and three other men were indicted in connection with the death of a volunteer firefighter in Tennessee.
In March, 26-year-old Corey Matthews was found beaten to death in Franklin County, Tennessee. Investigators there say Matthews, a volunteer firefighter, died of blunt-force trauma to his head and upper body. The murder was eventually linked to his involvement with a hate group.
"Simply, with his affiliation to the white supremacy group, the 'Aryan Nation,'" says Franklin County Tennessee Sheriff Tim Fuller.
Three other suspects in the murder have been arrested, but David Jenkins remains at large.
"He does know we're looking for him and he is considered armed and dangerous," says John Garrison, with the U.S. Marshals Office Eastern District of Texas.
The U.S. Marshals office says Jenkins was born on October 13, 1966 in New York. He's five foot eleven and weighs 200 pounds. He has brown eyes, brown hair and a light complexion. Officials add that Jenkins has a tattoo on his left chest, left upper arm and left inner arm. He has scars on his back, right forearm and his leg.
Authorities say Jenkins is affiliated with white supremacist groups, the "Aryan Nation" and "Aryan Brotherhood." Deputy Marshals in Tennessee say some tips have led them to believe he could be in East Texas with ties to Texarkana and Newton.
"What we're asking the general public to do all the way from Beaumont over to Texarkana, is to just keep on the lookout for his face," says Farrison.
If you see Jenkins, authorities ask that you do not approach him, but instead contact a local law enforcement agency immediately.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigations and the U.S. Marshals Office are each offering rewards up to $2,500 for the information that leads to Jenkins' arrest.
Anyone in East Texas with information on Jenkins is urged to contact your local US Marshals at 903-590-1370, Crimestoppers at 903-597-2833 or Deputy U.S. Marshal Jason Ladd at 423-421-0248.
