UAB wants to show appreciation for its nurses by feeding them on National Nurses Week.
On Wednesday, UAB provided a handful of food trucks at the Women's and Infant Center.
UAB provides a magnet school of nursing. A magnet school is recognized for its excellence in teaching standards and UAB is the only magnet school of nursing in the state of Alabama.
A nursing supervisor said using the food trucks is a unique way this year to show appreciation for their nurses for all the hard work they do for their patients.
"It's not easy being a nurse. You are constantly pulled in a variety of directions. You mind mentally, physically and also with your heart. Our nurses are caring, compassionate. They are empathic," Kristen Noles said.
Noles said the nursing profession remains a high in demand profession because of the stress it places on nurses. Noles said the job remains mostly female but men make up about ten percent of the job force.
UAB is also sponsoring a blood drive at the North Pavilion second floor atrium this week as a part of Nurses Week.
