A new Alabama-based startup company hopes to protect companies from cyber attacks.
The company called Malcovery Security, a cyber intelligence company which tries to protect against cyber threats. It was a private public partnership which UAB help launch in December, along with a Pittsburg, Penn. investor.
Gary Warner, a cyber attack analyst at UAB will be working with the company. Warner says each day there are thousands of spam attacks on businesses trying to get information about your bank account.
"The important thing to understand is if your company has credit cards, you are a target. Look at the credit card attacks in this area," Warner said.
The company is housed at Innovation Depot. Warner has patented technologies from research work at UAB which will benefit the school as the company grows.
Some of Malcovery's clients include Facebook, Ebay and Bank of America. Warner said some cyber attacks are too much for one company to handle.
"One company we worked with had a $1 million-budget for shutting down counterfeit websites. They ran out of money in August of last year," Warner said.
Warner said Malcovery can spot cyber attacks quicker than most software protection programs. For more information go to www.malcovery.com.
