BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Huffman High School held a ceremony Wednesday to honor the memory of a student killed in a wreck on Mother's Day.

Fourteen-year-old Tytiwaan Ard lost his life when his father wrecked on their way to pick up his mother from church on Sunday, May 12.

The brakes in his father's truck went out as he was exiting I-59 at exit 120 and in an effort to avoid other cars, the truck ran into a ditch and flipped. Tytiwaan and his dad were both thrown from the truck. Tytiwaan lost his life, but his father survived.

Wednesday afternoon his classmates at Huffman High School lit candles, played music and released balloons in his honor. They also sang happy birthday after the balloon release since Wednesday would have been Tytiwaan's 15th birthday.

Tytiwaan's funeral will be held Saturday, May 18 at Faith Chapel Christian Center at Campus A. It's located on 800 Quebec Drive in Birmingham.
