GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Lake Guntersville State Park is preparing for a grand reopening of its campground this weekend.

It comes more than two years after it was seriously damaged by the April, 2011 tornadoes.

Some things will need some time to get better, but the park used the time to make many things much better.

Campers are already arriving in advance of this weekend's reopening of the state park's campground.

The campground was closed after the tornadoes struck, but sections of the campground have been reopened since that time.

Workers are frantically putting on the final touches of the last section to open before this weekend.

Park officials say there will be fun things for the kids to do such as a water slide and dunk tank. There will also be live music from three bands for all to enjoy.

"We've reduced our rates by $6 a night.  Now it's $19 for a full hook up site, and if you come in and stay with us Friday or Saturday night, you get Sunday and Monday too," said park superintendent Mike Jeffreys. "So not only are we ready for this weekend, but we're going right into Memorial Day and we're open and ready for business."

The event starts with a ceremony at 11 a.m. and the fun lasts until 4:30 on Saturday.
