BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Family, friends and community members gathered Thursday evening to remember 76-year-old Birl Jackson.

The landscaper's death shocked his Birmingham neighborhood. Police say he was gunned down during a robbery. Dozens gathered at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in West End where Birl was a deacon.

Elizabeth Jackson was surrounded by lots of family, fellow church members and friends tonight. But she says things have not gotten easier for her since her husband was killed.

Jimmy Warren, who is Birl's son, also spoke with FOX6 News. He is a police officer in Birmingham and says his father was a good man and a great dad.

Elizabeth says she is grateful to everyone who came out to remember Birl.

"I can't describe the feeling...It lets me know my husband was loved by everybody," she said.

Two suspects have been arrested in the case. Police have charged Donovan Burke, a 24-year-old from Birmingham, with capital murder in Jackson's death. A second man, Adrian Dunning, 28 of Birmingham, has been charged with murder.
