NORTHPORT, AL (WBRC) -
Tuscaloosa County investigators have charged a suspect in a deadly hit and run in Northport from Monday night.
Investigators say a male pedestrian was struck and killed on Highway 82 West and Highway 43 North around 9 p.m. His identity has not yet been released.
Police say the suspect left the scene and drove west on Highway 82. Witnesses gave a description of the suspect's vehicle and Tuscaloosa County deputies found it a short time later on Highway 82 and Upper Columbus road.
Officials took the driver, Len Lamar Rice, 23, into custody. The Tuscaloosa County Homicide Unit charged Rice with leaving the scene of an accident with injury or death. He was booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
Northport police and the Tuscaloosa County Homicide Unit are continuing to investigate the case.
