A man accused of abusing his pit bulls has pleaded guilty to animal cruelty.
The original case of animal abuse dates back to 2011. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says 33-year-old Denearious Mooney has to pay a $2,000 fine and $2,800 in restitution to BJC Animal Control for the cost of caring for his dogs after they were seized.
The owner of the dogs was once suspected of trying to burn to death 12 other pit bulls.
On September 2, 2011, Shady Grove firefighters found the 12 pit bulls while fighting the fire that a sheriff's spokesman says was designed to burn the dogs to death.
Firefighters had to use bolt cutters to break the chains and carry the dogs to safety.
A judge has also ruled that Mooney can't own any dogs for two years.
