The following comments were generated from an editorial by FOX6 WBRC-TV General Manager Lou Kirchen, which first aired on Tuesday, May 21, 2013:
I believe we should enforce this law strongly. And, we should not be light on this situation. In order for Alabama to be the old beautiful state then we should enforce it intensively. We should not be light with the fines. The laws have been in the state for a long time. We should fine them like Georgia, give them a $2,500 fine and make them clean up a mile from the litter point. This is a serious matter.
I live right off of Valley Avenue and my granddaughter lives with me. And, once a week we go around the neighborhood and pick up the newspapers and we put them in a recycling bin. I am trying to teach her that you do not litter.
Get your map out, Palisades Boulevard/Valley Avenue is Birmingham not Homewood. Valley at Vulcan could be Homewood or Birmingham.
We have just returned from a river cruise in Europe and when I heard the editorial today at noon it made me think back to how clean and neat the rivers, the streets and all are in virtually all of Europe that we sailed. It just made me so distressed that we have the issues that we have here in Alabama and the United States. But, I totally agree with having fines.
Thank you for your interest in this week's editorial. We look forward to hearing more comments from you on future issues.
