PINSON, AL (WBRC) -

Birmingham Police and the Jefferson County Sheriff's office are searching for an armed man who robbed the Dollar General in Pinson Friday morning.

Police say the suspect waited for all of the customers to leave the store on Pinson Valley Parkway then walked in, armed with a weapon, and demanded money.

Authorities haven't said how much money was stolen, but they say he put the cash in a red backpack and fled the scene.

Surveillance video of the robbery shows the suspect running behind the store. A K9 unit has been brought in to search the woods behind the building.

"He ran around the side of the building so we think he's on foot and if there was a car in the back then he may be away from the scene," Sgt. Frederick Washington with BPD said.

"We hope he's still in the vegetation and because we got on the scene so quickly, we called in the K9 to help capture our suspect," Washington added.

The suspect remains on the loose. He is described as a black male, around 5'6" and 165 pounds, with a bandana over his face and a black T-shirt with white writing.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call police.
