Today is the United Way Day of Action. Volunteers with the United Way will be working on about 18 different projects across the Tuscaloosa area.
Work sites across the area have been getting ready for the workers to arrive today. Family counseling services is one of the agencies that will be getting some help with painting today and they did some prep work so they can make the most of the day of action.
Another place where workers will do several types of projects is Northington Elementary. The school will be getting some fresh paint, some beautification to the front entrance and also some sprucing up in their indoor garden. Volunteer Jamaal Noland hopes the finished work puts a smile on students' faces.
"First impressions mean everything," he said. "You come out here and it looks good, you're more likely to have a good day at school. If it looks all sad and depressing, you want to be sad and depressed. But when we fixed it up out here, it should look very nice and the kids will appreciate it and their parents especially."
United Way says opportunities like this do not just happen on the day of action. United Way says to any group or even just an individual who wants to work on a project like this, just give them a call. They also say these projects make good team building exercises for a group of co-workers.
