Here is what you saw on Good Day Alabama for June 21, 2013:
JEH JEH LIVE - The Triumph Superbike Classic is the third round of competition for the Geico Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing Series and will feature seven races over the 3-day weekend. Two-time defending series champion Josh Hayes will be back in Birmingham to try and repeat his success at last year's event where he won both Superbike races. Tickets for the Triumph Superbike Classic start at just $15 per day and can be purchased at www.barbermotorsports.com. A three-day pass is $55 and includes free paddock upgrade. Kids 15 and under are admitted free with a ticketed adult. The Motorcycle Super Saver package is also available online for $130 dollars. This ticket package includes General Admission and Paddock access for each motorcycle event at Barber Motorsports Park, which includes the Triumph Superbike Classic, Barber Vintage Festival and WERA Grand National Finals. Purchasers will also receive one Sunday Parade Lap during the Triumph Superbike Classic.
TERRI LIVE - The American Heart Association is the largest voluntary health organization working to prevent, treat and defeat heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases. These diseases, the Nation's No.1 and No.4 killers, claim more than 813,804 American lives a year. The AHA thanks all the walkers, donors and volunteers who have accepted the challenge to help fight heart disease and stroke. The Heart Walk in Birmingham is tomorrow. The goal is to raise $575,000. The walk includes a one mile and a 5k route. It will be in the new Uptown Birmingham Entertainment district near the BJCC. For complete details and to register your team, visit http://birminghamheartwalk.org
BBJ - Janice talked with Ty West from the Birmingham Business Journal about local business headlines. They discussed how local companies spent almost $5million in federal lobbying last year; why Southwest stopped direct flights from Birmingham to New Orleans and Jacksonville; and how Chick-fil-A in Five Points South comes under fire for a non-drive-through in it's parking lot. For more on these and other business stories, visit www.birminghambusinessjournal.com.
COOLEST CARS UNDER $18K - The expert editors from Kelley Blue Book's website, the leading provider of new car and used car information, have just named the 2013 10 Coolest New Cars Under $18,000! While many inexpensive cars are decidedly uncool, the world's auto manufacturers are putting more personality and distinction into their lower-priced offerings. Not only have small cars never looked so good, but they also have never been more filled with cool content. Two criteria -- fun-to-drive and fun-to-own -- are critical among the deciding factors of what the editors freely admit is a very subjective "cool factor," the over-arching number-one criterion for a vehicle to place on this list. Each vehicle is available for purchase at $18,000 or less. For the full list, visit www.klbb.org.
ZOO CREW - Kelly Wall joined us from the Birmingham Zoo to introduce Mickey to the Kookaburra. To learn more information about the animal or visit the zoo, go to birminghamzoo.com.
COMEDIAN - The Amazing Johnathan is an eccentric comic magician whose bizarre humor and unscripted antics have earned him widespread recognition as one of the most original and successful performers today. He has performed for two Presidents, appeared on hundreds of TV shows including David Lettermen, HBO, and has had several of his own half hour and hour Comedy Central Specials. He also helped create RUCKUS, a game show created by both himself and Merv Griffin. He is the three time winner of The World Magic Award and his career longevity has made him loved by two generations around the world.
