An accident on I-459 northbound at the US-31 interchange in Hoover caused some major traffic delays from 7:45 a.m. till 9:45 a.m. Friday morning.
The accident involved a pickup truck pulling a trailer holding a bobcat. Hoover police department Captain James Coker said the delays were caused once when the truck and trailer were separated causing the trailer to flip with the bobcat on it.
A gas leak also came from that flipped bobcat, which Hoover Fire Department responded to.
The accident took up two lanes of traffic with a single car later hitting the truck involved, causing a second accident.
The single car's driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Brookwood Hospital. The accident is still under investigation to find out the main cause of the trailer being separated from the truck.
"The number one thing you've got to do when your driving is keep your head in the game," Captain Coker said on avoiding accidents.
"If your eyes come off the roadway, you may miss something. At interstate speeds, you can actually outdrive your reaction time, which means it takes a little over two seconds to perceive something and react to it. But in two seconds on the interstate you may have gone several hundred feet," Coker added.
