HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Redstone Arsenal is preparing to uncover and dispose of buried chemical weapons.  Their search is set to start in August.

They will be cleaning up 17 chemical weapons dumping sites located on the Arsenal.

The Arsenal plans to use "Environmental Geophysics Mapping Instruments," which work like metal detectors, in order to locate these weapons.

It used to be standard practice to dispose of these types of weapons by burying them, and officials say it will take about 25 years to clean up all of these dumping sites.
