BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The Jefferson County Coroner has identified the man found shot to death inside a home in south East Lake on Monday.

The coroner identified the body as 36-year-old Joe Hays. The coroner said he lived in the 600 block of 84th Street South, where his body was found on Monday afternoon.

Birmingham Police Sgt. Johnny Williams says the case is still considered an unclassified death/shooting investigation at this point, not a homicide.

However, the coroner's office says they are treating the case like a homicide because one person killed another person, although criminal charges may or may not be filed. The coroner's office says the shooting was the result of a domestic argument.

Police took a woman who was inside the home in for questioning. She is considered a person of interest, not a suspect, in the case.

So far, no charges have been filed in the case.
