The Mayor of Hanceville says they will not replace their K9 after a recent attack on his handler.
Monday, the department's drug dog, Ichibon, attacked his handler, Officer Anthony Childress, twice. Childress shot the dog when it appeared he was going to attack a third time.
Mayor Kenneth Nail says because the department is tigh ton money, they will not be getting another K9. Ichibon cost between $4,000 and $5,000. Nail also says there are liability issues with a K9 that they cannot afford to cover right now.
Ichibon was the only K9 with the department. Nail says Childress will not face any repercussions as a result of the shooting. He was released from the hospital Tuesday.
