GADSDEN, AL (WBRC) -

Gadsden police are investigating a burglary and home invasion from early Monday morning.

A married couple told police officers that they woke up around 5 a.m. Monday, July 1 to a burglary in progress at their home.

The couple lives in the 2300 block of Cansler Avenue. The husband said he heard a noise in the living room, and when he went to investigate, he saw a tall black man standing inside.

The suspect allegedly cut the man on the arm and in the stomach with a knife, Captain Bobby Jackson with Gadsden PD said. The suspect also cut the victim's wife before he ran out of the house, Jackson said.

The husband told police he also saw a white male in the street in front of the house, acting as a lookout.

The couple was not seriously injured in the incident. Medics treated them at the scene.

Police say nothing was reported stolen from the home.

Captain Jackson said they're not sure at this time if the home invasion is connected to an assault that happened nearby.

A woman who also lives in the 2300 block of Cansler Avenue reported finding her husband injured with a small puncture wound a few streets over around 4:30 a.m.

Police are still investigating both cases.
