When it comes to school construction projects, this is the busiest times of year.
In addition to construction underway for a new Brookwood High School set to open in 2014, the Tuscaloosa County School system is wrapping up construction on the new Big Sandy Elementary School.
The system says all of the new school construction is paid for with the county's one-cent sales tax.
The two areas where new schools are underway have seen significant growth.
"The Brookwood zone is an area that over the past ten years has grown tremendously," David Sellers with Tuscaloosa County Schools said.
"The Hillcrest zone has grown as well, and other areas of the county as the county develops and industry moves to the area," Sellers added.
Activity buildings are also being built at several elementary schools that previously didn't have gyms for indoor P.E. classes or other functions.
