Springville city leaders are getting feedback on possible new pet restrictions. They heard from residents at a committee meeting Tuesday night on a proposal to regulate dangerous dogs or pets.
A supporter of the ordinance who is also a committee member says the rules are needed because she has experience with a dog's violence. She brought a picture of her son who was mauled by a pit bull.
Opponents say the new rules should not specify any particular breeds. If the ordinance passes, anyone who owns a dangerous animal, including pit bulls and snakes, would be required to get insurance. They must register the animal with the city and the animal would have to be confined indoors or in a kennel.
The city council has not voted on the measure.
