Tuscaloosa police are looking for a third suspect in an early morning shooting that left a woman in critical condition.
Police responded to a reported shooting around 2 a.m. Wednesday at the Treetop Apartments on 36th Avenue East.
Inside the apartment, officers found a 21-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. She was taken to DCH Hospital where police say she is being treated for a serious injury.
Police say the woman, her 24-year-old female friend and a small child were inside the apartment when someone fired several shots through the window.
The victim's brother, who also lived at the apartment, was involved in an argument from earlier in the day, according to Lt. Kip Hart with Tuscaloosa Police.
The victim's 24-year-old friend witnessed that argument and gave police a description of possible suspects involved.
Police believe the bullets were meant for the victim's brother, but he wasn't home when the shooting happened.
After the suspects' description went over the radio, a TPD officer realized he had just pulled over the suspects for a traffic violation and released them.
The officer chased the suspects in a brief pursuit and caught up with them. The driver of the car fled from the vehicle on foot and has not yet been caught. Police arrested the two other people who were passengers inside the car.
Homicide investigators found probable cause to charge suspects Jamarcus Ledarious White, 28, and Chiquita Lashell Williams, 18, with attempted murder and shooting into an occupied dwelling.
White is also charged with third degree receiving stolen property after police recovered two firearms.
White and Williams have both bonded out of jail.
Police are seeking charges on the third suspect who escaped from the vehicle and got away. Tuscaloosa authorities have asked U.S. Marshals for help locating the final suspect.
