An accident involving three vehicles on Center Point Parkway sent five people to area hospitals Thursday afternoon.
The wreck happened around 2:45 p.m. at the corner of 25th Avenue NW and Center Point Parkway.
Two people were ejected from an SUV and transported to UAB Hospital for treatment.
Another driver was rescued from being trapped inside a vehicle and rushed to the hospital.
In another car, the driver was a babysitter traveling with a two-year-old child. The toddler was secured in a car seat and unharmed.
The toddler's father, Anthony Turner, is grateful his son came out of the crash without a scratch. His babysitter was treated for non-lifethreatening injuries.
Turner says the babysitter called him from an ambulance to tell him about the accident. When he arrived at the scene, he found his young son with Center Point's Fire Chief.
"I knew he had to be okay if he wasn't in the ambulance with her. My concern was finding him when I got here," Turner said. "When I got here it was chaos, cars, smashed in. I didn't know what to think. When I found him he was happy to see me."
Some of the victims were taken to UAB Hospital and some to Brookwood Hospital, Center Point's police chief said.
In addition to the babysitter, one other victim had non-life-threatening injuries. There is no word yet on the conditions of the other three.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is investigating how this accident happened.
