Jefferson County Commissioners recognized some big losers during their Thursday meeting.
Jefferson County employees competed in teams to see which team could lose the most weight. Overall, teams lost more than 400 pounds.
The winning team lost more than 100 pounds. The group was led by Jeff Calvert in General Services who lost about 30 pounds.
Calvert held up a pair of his old big pants to commissioners to show his success. The leader of the winning team said the competition was good for their health and the taxpayers.
"Co-pays are our responsibility but insurance falls back on the county. It will help with cost effectiveness, cost-wise it's a no lose situation. Although we did lose," Brenda Watkins said.
Many of the county workers said they plan to continue to work on their weight loss because of health concerns, especially those with diabetes.
