The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says that three people were injured in a three-vehicle accident on Highway 79 near the Jefferson-Blount county line.
Chief Deputy Randy Christian says speed may have been a factor in the accident. Area authorities say that as of 4:30 p.m., there were traffic delays in both directions of the highway.
Christian says that a vehicle traveling northbound struck another vehicle in the rear. The first vehicle then lost control, crossing the center line and then struck a southbound pick up truck head on.
Christian says the driver of the first vehicle had to be extracted and was transported by hospital by Lifesaver. A passenger in the same vehicle was transported by ambulance with non life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the southbound truck was transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Christian says the driver of the car that was struck from behind reported no injuries and refused medical treatment.
