A church in Tuscaloosa is celebrating a new beginning after being destroyed during the April 27th tornado outbreak in 2011.
Central Church of Christ held its first Sunday service in its new building on Sunday. The congregation also hosted a dedication ceremony.
The church's minister says April 27th helped his church find a new connection with its mission to serve the community. Many church members now travel to other areas affected by disasters.
Burrell thorne: "Before, if we hadn't been torn up, well you know, tornadoes happen, and there's nothing I can do to help. But there's always something that you can do to help," said Burrell Thorne.
"Now that we've been through it ourselves, we go there, and we don't look at the pictures on TV in the same way as somebody that hasn't experienced something like this," added Debbye Thorne.
The church also made a joint agreement with the city of Tuscaloosa on the new city walk project; part of that pathway actually runs through the church's property.
