SAN DIEGO (KFMB/CNN) – Civil rights icon and Georgia Congressman John Lewis wrote a comic book about his life.

This weekend, Lewis took to Comic-Con to promote it.

Lewis organized demonstrations at segregated lunches and participated in freedom rides across the South.

He gives a tidbit into his past and what you can expect from his comic.

"I got arrested a few times, I was beaten and left bloody, almost died on that bridge from Selma to Montgomery but I never gave up. Never gave in. Never became bitter or hostile," said Lewis.

The first March book is scheduled to be out next month, with the following due in 2014 and 2015, according to Roll Call Publications.
