The family of a Prattville teenager seriously injured in an accident is grateful for an outpouring of support from the community.
Shelby Belinge was a passenger in a car that flipped along Old Ridge Road on Saturday. The driver was able to get and walk away, but another passenger also had to be transported to the hospital.
Shelby is recovering in a Birmingham hospital, after suffering a fractured spine, among other injuries.
"It's been rough," said Brian Belinge, Shelby's father. "It's difficult to know what's happened and we're going to have to go through."
Belinge is heartened by the fundraisers already planned by those in the community, and the response from those far away.
"From other states, we even had a message from troops in Kuwait praying for Shelby, so it's really helped out me and Shelby's mother. A lot knowing we have so many people behind us."
Prattville High School's Senior Student Government Association is having a car wash on Saturday, with part of the proceeds going to Shelby.
"She's a tough girl, and she's fighting through it, so we're just, I'm just supporting her as much as we can," said Kennedy Motley, a friend of Shelby's.
Updates on Shelby's progress and more information on fundraising efforts for her and her family can be found here.
