ANNISTON, AL (WBRC) -

Anniston police are investigating the death of a five-year-old boy who died Friday, but they're not releasing the boy's name or saying what happened.

Police have confirmed they answered a call sometime Friday morning from the 2500 block of Wilmer Avenue.

They've confirmed the child was taken to Stringfellow Hospital in Anniston, then to Children's of Alabama hospital in Birmingham where he later died.

The neighborhood where the child lived is near a church, the Victory Headquarters Christian Center.

Johnnie Johnson, a neighbor who says he rented a home to the child's family, said the boy went to Sunday school at the church with his sisters and wanted to be a preacher when he grew up.

That neighbor described a conversation he had with the child's mother.

"He said, 'The pastor's name is Gregory, and he preaches. Can I become a preacher?' And she told him yes. She was in the kitchen right there. He said, 'Can I carry the Word of God like he does?' She said yes, and she said, 'From that point I just started crying and ended up coming to church.' She ended up coming to church as well," Johnson said.

Coroner Pat Brown said late Monday afternoon he was waiting for an Anniston police news release before he confirmed anything. The autopsy results were supposed to come back on Monday.

Fox6 News has not yet received a release from the Anniston Police Department.
