It may seem silly, but Charles Blackman is serious about his son's future.
"I want to make my family aware of how good life is and how short it can be cut over nothing."
He still can't believe an argument over $20 dollars left a man dead literally in his backyard.
"We're talking less than 700 yards. Maybe 500 yards at the most," says Blackman.
Blackman, his wife and son, Wesley, live in a townhome just off Norman Bridge Road.
The Diplomat Inn is behind it.
Blackman believes activity around the motel is spilling in to his home.
"You never know what you're gonna see. This wall right over here. Every now and then you just see people start coming over. They'll jump over the wall," says Blackman, pointing to a wall beside the townhome.
He's mostly concerned for Wesley's safety and doesn't want him falling in to the wrong crowd.
But Wesley says that's not for him.
"When they do things I try to sometimes just come on home or get away from the environment," he says.
Wesley admits his father's support keeps him on the straight and narrow.
But Blackman hopes nearby residents and local leaders adopt the same philosophy--to cut down on crime across Montgomery.
"I just pray that neighbors can get together and maybe councilmen and councilwomen, city government, state, federal, everyone get together and maybe we can resolve this issue."
