On Oakey Streak Road in
Gantt a streak of lightening bolted out of the sky and struck a water line, a
line three feet under the ground.
"Lightening hit it
this morning and of course it's all electricity. It hit the main and broke it
open," said Larry Walker.
Larry Walker works part
time for the town of Gantt as its Operations Manager. The broken line spilled
some 50,000 gallons of water down Oakey Streak Road before construction crews
could plug it up.
"This ditch was
just full," said Walker.
At one point 50
residents didn't have water but they were back on line within 3 hours.
The water is flowing
again thanks to a new 20 foot pipe, 8 inches in diameter. Walker estimates the
repair job will cost the town of Gannt around $800.00
It was another dirty job for Larry Walker who learned long ago to appreciate the force of nature.
