Anniston mom charged in son's death serves with Ala. National Guard

ANNISTON, AL (WBRC) -

FOX6 News has learned more information about the woman facing manslaughter charges in the death of her four-month-old son.

Katherine Papke, 35, allegedly left her son alone in a car Friday, Aug. 9. Papke is on active duty in the US Army and she is assigned to an Alabama National Guard Unit at Fort McClellan. Papke is a sergeant first class. Her job is to plan training and operations for the unit.

Police took Papke into custody, questioned her and then charged her with two felonies, manslaughter and leaving a child unattended in a motor vehicle. She was jailed and later bonded out of a $100,000 bond.

The baby's body has been taken to the Department of Forensic Science in Huntsville for an autopsy. The official cause of death has not been released.
