BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

An arrest has been made in the fatal hit-and-run accident that happened Sunday on I-59 north.

Charles Taylor, a 49-year-old man from Irondale, was killed when a car hit his vehicle at the Messer-Airport exit.

Police say William Sevier, 24, of Mountain Brook, was driving the gold Hyundai Elantra that struck Taylor's black Ford Expedition and caused it to flip. Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say Sevier failed to stop at the scene. A Birmingham officer found his vehicle in the back of the America's Best Inn on Messer-Airport Highway and found Sevier in the hotel lobby. He was later identified as the driver and arrested.

Sevier is charged with murder, leaving the scene of an accident, manslaughter and robbery.

Police say Sevier had stolen the Hyundai in Homewood before the accident.
