Members of Alabama State University Presidential Search Committee want to expand the pool of potential applicants. They want to make sure business leaders, government officials and even high-ranking military members keep the university as an option.
"Traditionally it's been an academic approach, come up through the ranks and make it to college president," said Donald Watkins, a member of the Presidential Search Committee But in recent years, we've seen different pathways."
Watkins is chair of a subcommittee charged with coming up with desired qualifications for the next president.
"We may be the right opportunity for someone who looking for a different challenge. Someone's who's a proven leader, a demonstrated leader."
The full committee will meet again next week to reduce the field even more.
