ANNISTON, AL (WBRC) -

Anniston Police say they're investigating a robbery in which a store owner was shot. Police say the victim actually drove himself home.

It happened just after midnight, early Friday morning, at Black's Store and More on West 15th Street in Anniston. A sign at the store Friday touted a grand opening.

Police say the owner and another witness was in the store when three men entered. One of them displayed a chrome gun, and that's when the witness fled the store.

Police say the owner and one of the bandits got into a scuffle and the owner was shot once in the torso.

Police Captain Allen George says the man then drove himself home, told his mother he'd been shot, and collapsed. His mother then called 911.

The man underwent surgery later in the morning and was last listed in stable condition in the intensive care unit at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center.

Police haven't said what, if anything, was taken in the robbery. There have been no arrests.
